St Louis

Everyone knows someone in St Louis. It’s weird. I thought it was a small city known for blues, its baseball team and the famous St Louis Arch which really is quite pretty. I was in town for a conference.

The light was glorious on the day i chose to go out and shoot the Arch. Golden and soft. The kind of light that makes you finally understand what they mean by the magic hour. We get it sometimes in Singapore too. Rarely but it’s just not the same….

Then my camera (the LCA) frigging screws up on me…..This is the only picture I have of the Arch. Woe is me!

I love the LCA. Rich , beautiful colours, sharp lens and a easy to operate camera that allows the photographer to focus on the composition. But my LCA has been acting up. It didn’t wind the negative when it was supposed to. Aperature priority is totally wacked up. I don’t mind the occasional red patches that shows up on the pictures as long as the pictures still turn up. But it’s overexposed to the state of the picture being completely gone or underexposed that the picture looks like a patchy watercolour painting (hmm….this i still don’t mind.)

I don’t mind a less than perfect picture as long as the feel is right but I just want my LCA to work! :(

Go on. Blind me with that flash of yours. What happened to being in the moment and enjoying the scenery?

Excuse me but I’m going to look at the city now. That is my job after all.

Apple Bottom Girls

ac121206.jpg

I met the Apple Bottom Girls while I was in Moberly, Missouri. A spirit club, started by the girls themselves, creates an identity for bi-racial, african american girls and all mixed races in school. The white girls are welcome to join them too. The ABG insists that they are not racists.

You can’t help but admire their spirit to create something for themselves in a community where they are the minority. 3 Cheers for Girl Power!!
