Yummy Yu Tiaos!

ac060207_2.jpg

The previous post had me thinking abt the yu tiaos found commonly along the roads in Kumming, Yunnan. Toasted on a charcoal grill, it’s wrapped in popiah skin and chilli, fermented bean sauces and sweet sauces are smeared generous. And it only costs a few cents! Disclaimer : Eat at own risk.

Expose: China Products!

When I was working in China, dinner conversations sometimes revolved around what not to eat or buy from the supermarket. You see, there were cases of counterfeit products such as eggs that are not really eggs, soya sauce made from human hair, cans of sardine fishes of fishy orgins (excuse the pun!). The situation was so bad that there was a channel exposing all the counterfeit food products (were not limited to the LV and Guccimamas bags).

One of the worst stories i heard was that oil used to fry the yummy yu tiaos (fried dough sticks) that you buy from the roadside hawkers were actually oil recycled from the sewage that’s been expelled out from the restaurant kitchens!!! How did you think the hawkers kept their prices so cheap?? Then again, these are all hearsay. Put me in Yunnan, I will still eat those yummy yu tiaos.

But then today……this happened….

In case, you’re wonder what’s the big deal. Rusty wok, just throw it away. I’ll have you know that this is a brand new wok that came with a new inconduction cooker my mum had bought in China. Thank god, Mum has the habit of boiling new woks in hot water to sterlise them and off came the paint work that covers the rust. EEKS!!!!!
